Found this site whilst surfing around
for some info on Avril Lavigne. The various musos I have
read often compare her to Alanis Morrisette, some calling
her Alanis-light.
I'm not sure whether they're smoking some of the wacky tabakki
or not but her music is definitely catchy. Check out Canadaka.net
for all your patriotic Canadian needs (and some cool stuff
too).

From what I can tell, NewWinnipeg.Com
is an attempt at indie web creation for the Winnipeg market.
It is earthy and real and not full of galmour or glitz but
if you are a Winnipegger, I think you will appreciate what
this site has to offer .
BTW, their logo is copyright ©

Perhaps the best local web site is WinnipegLocal.com
where you will find features such as band classifieds, login,
and info about where, when and how bands are playing. Of
course one of the best features of the site is streaming
music. Unfortunately it is Real Audio, but if you have real
player, you can click on the links and listen to the songs.

The
Downunder Club of Winnipeg is a club of Manitoban residents
connected to Australia and New Zealand in a variety of ways.
Over the past few years, the Club has seen an increase in
membership and has continued to build on the foundation
of the past and promote the culture, heritage and lifestyle
of places down under. Events such as Folklorama
will help the Club as it continues to give members the opportunity
to proudly showcase our respective homelands.

DEFINITELY
NOT THE OPERA
aka DNTO, this is a program that airs on Saturday afternoons
on CBC radio. It's really good and on the cutting edge of
so-called pop culture.

THE
MANITOBAN NEWSPAPER
The student newspaper at the University of Manitoba is called
the Manitoban. For a number of years, Gene worked
tirelessly as the Toban's staff news writer.
The Manitoban Newspaper is part of the Canadian
University Press. CUP, as they are known, support a
web page with news and opinions from their contributing
newspapers.

SPACEMOOSE
This link is one that originally came from the Manitoban
Online and is something at which some people may raise an
eyebrow. It is for a comic strip called that was originally
launched at the University of Alberta student newspaper.
Spacemoose is nationally known for being politically incorrect
and the author/creator of the strip has even been fined
for his portrayal of certain touchy issues. I provide
the link to Spacemoose at my own peril but suggest that
the views and opinions of SM are his own. I actually find
myself laughing at some of the strips and thought others
might find some humour in them as well.

COLLEGE

I didn't know quite where to put this (it kind of needs a
category of its own). We have a correspondent form CMJ come
by once a month to update us on the happenings in the world
of CMJ music. |
