NEW ORDER - FORMED: 1980, Manchester, England
Came out of Joy Division breakthrough hit "Blue Monday"
in 1983
"Blue Monday" went on to become the best-selling
12-inch release of all time, moving over three million copies
worldwide.
Brotherhood followed in 1986, with the single "Bizarre
Love Triangle" making significant inroads among mainstream
pop audiences.
A year later the group issued Substance, a much-needed
collection of singles and remixes; it was New Order's American
breakthrough, cracking the Top 40 on the strength of the newly
recorded single "True Faith," which itself reached
number 32 on the U.S. pop charts.
FRENTE – FORMED:
1991
Guitarist Simon Austin formed the Melbourne, Australian folk-pop
band Frente! in 1991, bringing in Angie Hart, Simon Austin (guitar),
Tim O'Connor and Mark Picton (replaced by Alastair Barden) to
round out the lineup.
Frente! entered
the international spotlight in the summer of 1994 with their
quirky acoustic version of New Order's "Bizarre Love Triangle."
On the back of that single, Marvin: The Album entered
the charts, with the single "Labor of Love" becoming
a minor hit. Shape followed in 1996.

Students Marc Almond and David Ball formed Soft Cell in Leeds
in 1980
1981's Tainted Love brought the duo to international prominence
Written by Ed Cobb and already a cult favorite thanks to Gloria
Jones' soulful reading, the song was reinvented as a hypnotic
electronic dirge which became the year's best-selling British
single, as well as a major hit abroad. The group's debut LP,
Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret, was also enormously successful,
and was followed by the 1982 remix collection Non-Stop Ecstatic
Dancing.

KILLING HEIDI

SILVERCHAIR
|
1994
|
( http://beam.to/killingheidi
)
The name Killing Heidi, is a name that suits the band perfectly.
"Heidi" for the sweet and innocent side of the band,
and "Killing" for the more powerful side.
The name is actually a representation about the loss of innocence
and youth.
Killing heidi began with Ella and Jesse Hooper, in the small,
little place of Australia called Violet Town. The pair would
jam,and write songs together, and do the ocasional show.
They decided to enter their heat of the national un earthed
band comp, run by Australian national radio station Triple J
and of course, they won. The song was Kettle, a sweet, slow
melodic song. Their song Kettle was also released on a compilation
cd from bent records, called TWO BENT.
SILVERCHAIR - FROGSTOMP (1995) – FIRST SINGLE
FORMED: 1992
The Australian grunge band Silverchair quickly rose to international
stardom in 1995 with their debut album, Frogstomp. Sounding
like a bastard offspring of Nirvana and Pearl Jam, Silverchair
gained more notoriety for their age than their music - at the
time they released Frogstomp, they were 15 years old.
Originally called the Innocent Criminals, the group changed
their name to Silverchair; Silverchair prior to the release
of their debut single "Tomorrow."
The name was derived from Nirvana's "Sliver" (which
was accidentally misspelled as "Silver") and You Am
I's "Berlin Chair."
"Tomorrow" became a major hit in Australia, reaching
number one; it would eventually become the country's fourth
biggest-selling single ever.
Upon its release, Frogstomp became the first album to
enter the Australian charts at number one and it went platinum
within a week; it would soon go double platinum and spend six
weeks in a row at number one.

REGURGITATOR
|
WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE?
|
BURT BACHARACH
|
|
FORMED: 1994
As their name suggests, Regurgitator's stock in trade is reinventing
music, drawing on a vast range of influences and wittily putting
the pieces back together in an avalanche of sounds and songs.
Described as
more pop than the Beastie Boys and less obscure than Primus
their music combines industrial sounds, funk, hip-hop, synth-pop,
disco and makes the most of effects and samples.
Nothing is sacred.
The band was
formed in Brisbane in late 1993 when Ben Ely and Quan Yeomans
met by chance on a bus.
In between Regugitator
commitments Ely continued to work with Pangaea, while Yeomans
formed Happyland with his girlfriend Janet English of Spiderbait.
After months
of denials drummer Martin Lee left Regurgitator at the end of
1999.
BURT BACHARACH
Many of his songs were made popular by Dionne Warwick and Jack
Jones. Bacharach won two Academy Awards in 1969 for the soundtrack
for Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and for the song
Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head from the same film.
Many of his tunes were written with lyricist Hal David.
