NEWS:
* Four NZ acts confirmed to play the Australian Big Day Out shows including
Scribe and Pmoney, King Kapisi, The Datsuns and Salmonella Dub. To coincide
with the event, Salmonella Dub have had their new single Slide added to
Triple J nationwide whilst Scribe's album The Crusader is scheduled to
be released in Australia on January 19.
* NZ On Air have announced the results of their latest and last, for
2003, funding round announcement. There were 110 applications for video
funding and only 20 were given grants. The full rundown on who got what
is available elsewhere. We played music from five artists who received
Video Grants. 'I Just Can't Help It' by Fang (Arch Hill), 'Backwards Is
Backwards' by Dimmer (FMR), 'Inside' by Sommerset (Kafuey), 'Saturated'
by OpShop (Siren), 'Slide' by Salmonella Dub (Virgin)
* NZ musicians have taken the top spots on both the annual NZ Top 50
Album and Single charts for the first time in the chart's history. Released
this week by the Recording Industry Association of New Zealand (RIANZ),
the charts saw hip hop artist Scribe take getting the most combined
sales and radio play for his 'double A-side' 'Stand Up/Not Many', and
Bic Runga topping the album charts with her excellent second album Beautiful
Collision.
* PanAm and Fur Patrol head out on a North Island tour this week, kicking
off on January 7 with a couple of gigs in sunny Napier, before working
their way around the central and northern parts of the island, culminating
with a gig in Whangerei on Sat 17th Jan. PanAm's debut album was recently
voted #8 in the New Zealand Herald's 30 best international albums
of the year.
* Tonjip are heading South to play a few shows in and around Sydney
this coming weekend. They are playing with Blind.
