NEWS:
* I Killed the Prom Queen (OZ) will launch their debut full length album,
"WhenGoodbye Means Forever", with an all ages gig on Saturday
December 13 at the Enigma Bar in Adelaide. Supporting acts will be Day
Of Contempt, Stockholm Syndrome and Threshold. This gig will be followed
by a national tour.
* Aussie band Jet have had some positive exposure in the United States
with "Are You Gonna Be My Girl." The track has also been licensed
for TV ads promoting Apple's iPod digital music player. In an ironic twist,
Aussie law prohibits us from transferring music from CD to an iPod.
* The Australian Government has given $156,664 to 16 projects through
the Contemporary Music Touring Program. The point of the program is to
encourage acts to tour, particularly to to the outback, and remote indigenous
communities. Some of the latest recipients include:
Peabody & Anouk Van Meeuwen: $10,000 for Peabody to undertake a 17
date tour through NSW, Qld, WA, Vic and SA to build on radio and video
airplay.
Gyro Music & Gyroscope- $10,000 for Gyroscope will conduct a national
tour across five states behind their debut album out early 2004. The tour
aims to consolidate audiences outside WA and builds on tours in April
and August 2003.
* The Datsuns (NZ) have been in the studio working on their next album
with Led Zeppelin legend John Paul Jones. JPJ flew out to NZ for rehearsals
back in October and last month was with them at Jacobs Studios in the
county of Surrey, England. The album is set for release in the first half
of 2004 and may contain some older reworked tracks.
* Last week two directors of the renowned (NZ) New Years Eve dance festival
"Alpine Unity" were arrested as part of an international drug
bust. Eight people were arrested on a range of drug charges in Auckland,
Wellington and Christchurch. The arrests revolve around the importation
of 6,000 tabs of LSD. The bust is the culmination of a 5 month electronic
surveillance operation. Alpine Unity's Auckland representatives indicated
they are positive that the festival will still go ahead. This year's festival
promises some of New Zealand's best live acts, including Rhombus, Scribe,
Trinity Roots and The Black Seeds, as well as international DJs.
* The Splore Festival (NZ) is returning to Waharau Regional Park, south
of Auckland for the fifth summer running. The event is 5-7 March and will
be showcasing Aotearoa's finest DJ's, live acts, VJ's, visual artists
and performers. Confirmed names for 2004 include Fat Freddys Drop, International
Observor, Trinity Roots, Manuel Bundy, Concord Dawn, Roger Perry, Cian,
Sub-Mariner and many more.
* On December 8th Dimmer (NZ) will release a new single called "Getting
What You Give." The limited edition 3 inch single will be strictly
limited to a run of only 600 prints. Each disc will be individually numbered
and feature the video for the single.
