* Kasey Chambers and Silverchair lead the nominations for the upcoming
APRA Music Awards. Kasey received five nominations (three for "Not
Pretty Enough") and Daniel Johns has three nominations, and becomes
the first individual writer to have two nominations for Song Of The Year.
Nominees for Song Of The Year are:
- Grinspoon's "Chemical Heart"
- Silverchair's "The Greatest View"
- The Waifs' "London Still"
- Kasey Chambers' "Not Pretty Enough"
- Silverchair's "Without You"
* The Whitlams are rumoured to have recorded the theme song "Run
For Your Life" for the Channel 7's Rugby world club coverage.
* Motor Ace are big in Japan. Their "Shoot This" album was released
there in late April there and last week "Carry On" was #8 on
the Oricon/Billboard Japanese Singles Sales Chart and #6 on the Tokyo
FM Airplay Chart.
* The TUIS (NZ music awards) happened recently and the Datsuns won four
awards including album of the year, best group, outstanding international
achievement and breakthrough artist. The Datsuns' two shows at the Hi
Fi Bar attracted the celebs. Audioslave came down to check them out one
night, while Tommy Love from the Casanovas and one or two of Sahara Hotnights
jumped up onstage for a few songs. The band returned the next morning
to New Zealand for their awards, and then flew right back to Adelaide
to continue their tour. They're confirmed to open on the main stage of
Ozzfest tour throughout the USA in July and August.
* other winners on the night were Goodshirt who got single and songwriter
awards for their No. 1 hit "Sophie" while Highest Selling Single
Of The Year went to Katchafire's "Giddyup". Bic Runga took best
female, solo artist and highest selling album (for "Beautiful Collision)
and Che Fu best male. Other winners were Nesian Mystik (people's choice,
urban album for "Polysaturated"), Salmonella Dub (dance album)
for "Outside the Dub Plates".

* Chuck Jenkins of Icecream Hands will be playing shows in London through
June. Meantime, the band launches its "When The Show Is Over"
at the Evelyn Hotel on May 10 with Brisbane band Shifter.
