PLAYLIST FOR NOVEMBER 29, 2000

Aha - I bet that you're surprised. A playlist from DownUnder UpOver - and less than a week after we went to air! Yes, Actually I'm impressed myself.

Lessee what we played this week. Oh, Lynne and I were really stoked to play some hard stuff (punk that is) since we had been to see No Means No on Tuesday evening - but we finished up playing a whole lotta non-punk stuff. Damn us to hell@! We'll have to play loud music next week.

For those of you that don't keep track of these things, SUPERHEIST have released a new track called "Crank the System" - it is loud and it rawks! We'll be playing it next week.
If you want, you can hear the track. Click here to download the mp3 from Channel V.

For some strange reason we always start the program off with Aussie stuff so we switched it around a bit and started with some Kiwi music newz and artists on the Wildside Record Label.

Last weekend at the Papakura Tavern, Shihad and Weta were joined by Oz rock dinosaur Jimmy Barnes. He performed a cover of AC/DC's "Dog Eat Dog" backed by a combined Shihad/Weta expat ensemble. In other Wildside news, Head Like a Hole have released their vid for 'Good Advice.'

artist - track (label)

  • Shihad - home again (Wildside)
  • Weta - where have you been (Wildside)
  • HLAH - wet rubber (Wildside)

Next up some stuff that we have been wanting to play but haven't had a lot of need to - we're getting around to some of what we used to do wrt featuring soem bands that don't make it into the headlines too much but deserve some attention regardless.

  • Endorphin - skin (indie?)
  • The Superjesus - Gravity (Warner)
  • The Fauves - bigger than tina (Shock)

The Fauves will be returning to Melbourne to play the tenth annual Meredith Festival. They haven't played it in six years. Other additions to the bill are Adelaide's Testeagles, and current Melbourne heroes The Casanovas. More info at http://www.mmf.com.au.

  • Diana Ah Naid - Perfect Family (Origin/Shock)
  • the rUg - Hungry for You (indie !)
  • the Whitlams - blow up the pokies (Phantom)

We have been playing a lot of Diana lately but she does rock-a-lot. Tonight we put her in the player because Phil Mortlock (Origin Records) has been voted back on to the ARIA board as an associate member.

Indie punks Jakob (NZ) sent us some of their product a little while ago and while it has had high rotation in my own player. It was well past due time for us to play them on the show. We did go with one of their shorter tracks (although it does kick some serious arse).

  • Jakob - warmth (indie)
  • the Saints - Just Like Fire Would (Mushroom)

A new CD called "Behind The Banana Curtain" (Valve/Warner) is being relased. It covers the last 25 years of Brisbane's musical history. Included are artists such as The Saints, The Go-Betweens, Lovs e Blur, Powderfinger and Regurgitator. As well, a book, "Generation Z", written and compiled by long term Zed volunteer Garry Williams, is a history of Brisbane's 4 ZZZ.

Finally, we ended the show off with some Paul Kelly. Lynne is a huge fan and always looking for a reason to play him.

  • Paul Kelly, Careless, Mushroom

Next week: Letterbox Lambs (new), Superheist (new), Urban Guerillas (indie&new), and other great stuff.
