This week we featured the second edition of MP3
Zone which has a
funky new name on our web page. We also played some new
music from Australia's Superheist and had our usual news update.
[Artist, Track, Label]
We actually started off the evening with some Nerf Herder -
specifically, the theme music from Buffy the Vampire Slayer tv
show. I'm doing a review of the CD and it was also relevant
because it features a track by Splendid. Splendid is Angie Hart's
new band which is also composed of her husband who used to be
in Alanis Morisettes' band. For those who don't remember, Angie
was the singer for Frente.
Nerf Herder, Buffy Theme, Arista
Splendid, Charge, Mammoth
The Subliminals, Crystal Chain, Flying Nun
The Cruel Sea, Better Get A Lawyer, Red Eye Records
Nancy Vandal, Prom date with no eyes, Shagpile/Shock
The Subliminals are draw their membership from Bressa Creeting
Cake, the Hasslehoff Experiment, Dimmer and Love's Ugly
Children. They have an EP which is really great - get it if you
haven't already!!
Thanks to Julie Beadle in Christchurch, we know that Shihad are
returning to NZ in December for a bit of a tour and The Hasselhoff
Experiment are on the road promoting their new album Out
Numbered and Out Gunned.
We played some Hasselhoff Experiment last week so thought we'd
play my favorite tune ever by Shihad.
Shihad, Home Again, Wildside/Polydor
Team Jedi, Safe Again, Shock
The Team Jedi kidz have been a favorite of our newest board
operator, Jacques (from Temescamange, QC), and he requested
we play something new from them - so we did.
Danko Jones is a mean Canadian band from Toronto. They are actually
pretty cool and one of the bands that I can honestly say are a treat
to see live. They have released a CD (called My Love is Bold) and
we thought we'd spice up the show with a track from it.
Danko Jones, Samuel Sin, Sound King
The Feelers, Venus, Mushroom/Warner (Request: for Jim and
Janice who were moving into their new apartment)
MP#.Zone
This week as part of MP3 Zone we played two NZ artists and one
from Oz. The Stereo Bus single called birthday is burning up the
charts in NZ (and deservedly so) and the track from Australia's The
rUg is really catchy. We found ourselves singing along!
While the DUUO web site is still under construction, I PROMISE! it
will be updated soon with appropriate links to the bands we play on
MP3 Zone and other relevant stuff.
The Stereo Bus, Birthday, MP3 (NZ)
The rUg, Hungry For You, MP3 (Oz)
Parsec, Morphecoupler, MP3 (NZ)
BTW, the suggestion to play Parsec came from Julie Beadle and it
turned out to be a great one.
If anyone else knows of a MP3 that is worthy or airplay on DUUO
let us know and send us an email.
Finally, to cap off the evening we played some music from a great
band who we are just getting to know . Tonight's premier of
Superheist was a DUUO first - and likely a first in Canada.
Superheist, Have Your Way, Shagpile/Shock (duuo premier)
End of the line.
