DUUO playlist - March 28th 2001

We have had a few people tuning in via the internet including an ex-pat from Australia who now lives in London, Ontario.

Chris has been in touch with us quite a bit and requested some TISM and Regurgitator. We started off the show by playing some our fave cuts from the two bands.

Artist - Track (Label)

  • TISM - Greg! The Stop Sign (SHOCK Records)
  • Regurgitator - Polyester Girl (Warner)
  • Machine Gun Fellatio - Unsent Letter (Festival/Mushroom Records)

We had some information that Sydney's MGF had three campus shows dropped last week. Apparently during their set at Melbourne University, singer Christa Hughes (aka KK Juggy) took off her top and did cartwheels around the stage. This apparently is not an isolated incident. Check out the FAN PIX on their web site (http://www.machinegunfellatio.com) to see what I mean.

According to Christie Eliezer student union leaders were angered by the act and said it was nothing but a publicity stunt designed to sell more CDs. Well, duh!

Cloudboy are finally releasing their long-awaited debut album proper. It is called 'Down At The End Of The Garden' and the word is that Demarnia Lloyd and Crew deliver a "lushly orchestrated set of moody, engaging avant-pop songs." Sounds good to me.

For tour dates see the Cloudboy mini-website hosted in the bands section of Arc Cafe's site at http://www.coffee.co.nz

  • Cloudboy - Pretty (ArcLife)
  • Zed - Driver's Side (Universal)
  • Tadpole - Alright (Antenna)

  • 78 Saab - Sunshine (Ivey League Records)
  • Lo-Tel - Teenager of the Year (

Kiwi legend Greg Johnson is hosting a special six week long Thursday Night Cocktail Club series of gigs at Otto's Sapphire Room in Auckland. It started on March 22nd and is being billed as "a night of songs, tall drinks, tall stories and surprise guests". According to Andy Mitchell, the secret has slipped to some degree and a guest list has been announced including: Boh Runga, Renee Brennan and Carly Binding, as well as members of The Feelers and old-timers Peter Urlich and Graham Hill.

Something for Kate have finished their third album (tentatively titled "Echolalia"), with "Monsters" set to be released as a single next month.
The album sessions were conducted with US producer Trina Shoemaker (Sheryl Crow) at Mangrove Studios on the NSW central coast. The band will tour Oz with Big Heavy Stuff through May.

  • Something for Kate - Beautiful Sharks (Mushroom)
  • Alex Lloyd - Lucky Star (EMI - Oz)
  • Greg Johnson - Hangover from Hell - Remix (EMI - NZ)

That is pretty much our playlist from this week. The DUUO web page is being revamped because Gene wasn't smart enough to make it Netscape-proof *sigh*. Stay tuned for more.
