Around Me,
Thanks to New Zealand On Air, we now have a whole lot more Kiwi music than we did before. One of the CDs they sent was the Iwi Hit Disc Volume 3 which has a great selection of Maori artists. Flax Records in New Zealand have a new website to coincide with their newest project, a band known as Maia. Thanks to Brendan Smyth @ New Zealand On Air for hearing our need for Kiwi music and coming through in flying colours! The band is described as a funky four piece, with voices of soul and awesome emotional power. They expect to release an album thisFebruary. See the Flax records site at http://www.flaxwax.com. MAIA, He Pumau Manawa, Flax Records
Okay, this week we played music from one Oz and
one Kiwi band for MP#Zone.
The two artists are UltraViolet from Oz and Debris from NZ. Ultraviolet, Rosalie, indie (MP3)
We ended off the night with a special focus on Ben Lee. He has come a long way from the days of recording in his bed room on a four track and performing with Noise Addict. As a special request for a listener we went through Ben's short history and played a couple of fairly rare songs ( in Canada ) from the "Something to Remember Me By" sessions. Ben Lee, Bad Radio Voice, Grand Royal
